We did 6 tours and 2 self-guided walking tours, plus a few other activities.
WWII Museum
100% MUST. This museum took us all day to tour. We watched a short film narrated by Tom Hanks called Beyond All Boundaries and took a break to eat lunch, but basically it was walking through the museum which showed the history leading up to and through WWII, learning why it started and how it escalated to a World War.
The first thing you do there is get a dog tag and then board a train. On the train you scan your tag and see who you are. Laureen was Bob Hope, an entertainer. Mark was Ernie Pyle, a journalist. Vince and Kim were soldiers.
It’s interesting to see what each person takes away from the museum and what they focus on the most. For Laureen it was the people of that time – what their houses look like, how they used their rations, etc. For Mark it was the dates and timelines of what happened when. Neither of us were very familiar with the history of WWII, just the major events like Pearl Harbour and Hitler, kind of what we learned through the entertainment industry.
