This is the last state that we will be in for a while. We will be crossing the border into Nova Scotia on Friday. We are 4 days ahead of schedule.
Vince and Kim took the day off from sight-seeing to catch up on their paperwork and truck maintenance.
Mark and Laureen took a 3-hour bus tour of Bangor.
The tour was called The Derry, Maine Tour. Derry, Maine is a fictional town which Stephen King created for his novels. Not only did we see Bangor, but we also saw the places that inspired Stephen King to write his stories about.
Stephen and Tabitha’s house, now turned into the King Foundation head office.
Creepy gate
Guest house turned into a writer’s retreat.
Back view
Buildings and places used in his books and movies (this is the water tower from the movie It).
Beware of Penny Wise
Pet Cemetery:
Stephen King would walk this Cemetery Park and choose names for his characters.
Here is where the name Carrie came from.
Georgie.
Highlights:
The bench where Stephen King would sit and write his stories.
Swimming Pool donated by the King’s in memory of their children’s babysitter who died of leukemia.
The Kings have done wonderful charity work and donations to the town. They don’t give money freely; they match donations and don’t want their name associated with the project.
A little league ball diamond designed like the major leagues. It was built for a friend’s son who loved ball but couldn’t play due to Spina Bifida.
The Radio Station Stephen bought so he could play rock music only. This is the only building with his name on it. The radio station is totally run by the DJ’s, they play what they want to listen to, not what the station says to play.
What to eat and drink in Maine. Whoopi Pie and Moxie soda.
Highly recommend the SK tour company. Family owned and operated who are friends of the King family. Lots of neat tidbits of information.
